Triple Bunk Beds – They’re Not What You Think

The term triple bunk beds is misleading. Most people assume that it means three twin sized beds are attached together vertically. And they correctly wonder 1) who has bedroom ceilings high enough to accommodate such a monstrosity, and 2) who in their right mind would allow their child to sleep in the top bunk?

Although there are a few units build this way, the majority are configured much more creatively. In fact, this style offers the most flexible way to maximize sleeping areas using a minimum amount of space. Here are a few examples of what’s available today.

Start with traditional bunk beds, then add a pull out trundle bed under the bottom bunk. It’s a great way to create “sleep over” space, or introduce little sister to her new big girl bed. And your kids can recover valuable play space during the day by pushing the third bed back under the bottom bed.

A great way to add attractive sleeping quarters for three in a small room is to choose an L-shaped configuration. It utilizes the corner of the room, freeing up floor space for other activities. This configuration can have two upper twins with a lower twin and study area, two lower twins with an upper, or even a full lower with two twin uppers. And many manufacturers offer extra long options for teens.

Bunk beds for three come in a wide variety of styles and materials. It is a great way to create a comfortable bedroom without sacrificing style or design aesthetic. Work with an on line retailer or your local furniture store to create the perfect unit for your family. There are a number of options available to address not only sleeping issues, but storage and study solutions as well.

Whether you are considering beds that sleep three, double bunks, loft bunks or futon bunks, be sure to check that they meet all safety requirements.
