For some people the task of redecorating a room is simple child’s play. It’s nothing for them to come up with compatible and complementary colors, both for walls and fixtures. However, for others it’s a complete nightmare. The confidence level required to do this is rather high, and if you don’t have it your room could turn out to be a disaster.
For the highly visual, like myself, it’s always better to see it before you do it. Easier said than done, but I’ll tell you some of my tricks.
- Use design friendly websites like Sherwin Williams to play with a variety of color palettes. You can pick colors for the walls, accent towels and trim. Fixtures tend to stay white.
- Take pictures of your existing room, the bathtub you want, the bathroom vanity and anything else of significance. Using a program such as Adobe PhotoShop you can combine all those images to create your own real life design studio. Change the wall colors, insert the vanity pictures, and get a much better idea of what your finish product would look like.
I’m in the middle of this very task. I have a large bathroom that needs a makeover but I don’t want to change more than the wall color and bathroom vanity. So I’m inserting a picture of my favorite vanities (taken at the store) into a picture of my current bathroom (ugly stripes and all). I’ll play with a variety of color options for the walls until I’m comfortable with one color.
